Phoenix

Didn't spend much time here - just waiting for the plane.  Spent most of the time at the Native American Museum - pretty incredible!

Wupatki

An amazing pueblo between the Sunset Crater Volcano and the Painted Desert.  I wish we had made it further into the Painted Desert, like this, or this, or this. There's just so much driving you can do. Look for the lava rocks and the blowhole in the earth, where the earth breathes in and out depending on the atmos ...

Tuzigoot & Montezuma

These are pueblo ruins.  Montezuma's castle was misnamed by the Spanish explorers who thought it was Aztec.  Incredible to learn how people out here managed to live!  We met a Forest Ranger who explained how all the pueblos had been built by the women while the men were off hunting.  There were room ...

Jerome

A beautiful little town built into the side of a mountain cliff.  It was a mining town with all the amenities - cowboys, shootouts, brothels.  There's still a bordello there today, though I think it functions more as a tourist bar now than a brothel. Now it's an artist colony with some amazing galleries. ...

Sedona Day Hikes

We did several of these.  We spent the first day walking to some of the vortexes, including the one near Boynton Canyon, Bell Rock, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross, a beautiful chapel built right into the side of the mountain by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Then we opted for some longer hikes, including Devil' ...
